6.2. Who is the contact for a domain?

Domains are registered at what are called Domain Registrars. When you register a domain, it is only for a period of time measured in years. There are 4 contact records associated with each domain: Registered Owner, Administrative Contact, Technical Contact and Billing Contact.

The Registered Owner is just that, usually the name of the business that is using the domain.

The Administrative Contact could be the business owner, their website developer, hosting provider, the domain registrar, or someone else.

The Technical and Billing Contacts can be anyone and really are not that important.

If you would like to look up the contact records for your domain or another, you will want to run a WHOIS lookup.

Visit the following site and enter your domain.
